Welcome to Literacy Solutions

Dear Educators,

This is an exciting time for those of us who are dedicated to creating unprecedented opportunities for learners to achieve the social, academic, and economic benefits of literacy. We have the knowledge gleaned from the science of literacy, an established research base on how reading and writing are most effectively taught and learned, and a growing understanding of the connection between social and academic learning to ensure the success of all our children and youth.

With these incredible opportunities on our minds and in our grasp, it brings me great pleasure to introduce you to Literacy Solutions® from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt® (HMH®. We have brought the experience of decades of professional services work in the field and the most up-to-date evidence-base of what it takes to advance literacy learning into this new offering.

The new organizational focus and strength under Literacy Solutions represents HMH’s ongoing and expanding commitment to equip teachers to set every student on a clear path toward proficiency with daily practice in reading, writing, and speaking, while providing differentiated instruction for students who require language development. When recently shopping for office supplies, I came upon a desk sign that read:

Teacher n. One who inspires, guides, motivates: tireless scholar

And I was particularly struck by the reference to “tireless scholar.” I don’t think as educators you get the recognition deserved for continuously updating your schools and advancing your own learning while doing the same for the students in your care. At Literacy Solutions, we honor your learning journey and professionalism.

All of our services are characterized by differentiation in support for your needs and interests, blending to take advantage of what works for in-person and online learning environments, and establishing a mechanism for networking and collaboration.

My professional learning journey started when I was teaching first grade and continues to this day. My colleagues at Literacy Solutions and I want to connect and be part of yours so that this generation of learners will become the most confident, competent, and caring readers and writers ever educated in our schools.

Warm regards,

Francie Alexander
